President Bush and the First Lady, Laura Bush, visited the Musician's village yesterday and marked the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by having lunch with volunteers, Habitat staff and Board Of Directors.
The President was led on a tour of the Musician's village by Jim Pate, NOAHH Executive Director. The President was visibly impressed by the progress made since his last visit on April 27th, 2006. When the President first visited he helped pound nails on the first house being constructed. During his second visit he was able to meet families that have since received keys to their homes(A total of 33, so far).
The President met with volunteers who are making this happen, and thanked them for their spirit of service. He met members of AmeriCorps, and expressed his appreciation for the service and dedication they have demonstrated in the long process of rebuilding families and communities in New Orleans
New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity is greatful to the President and the First Lady, for their continious support to our ongoing mission in New Orleans and outlying parishes
