November 27th, 2007, marked the construction of a new home for Lakuachel Price, sponsored by the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
With helping hands from volunteers from the National Association of Realtors, staff of Northwestern Mutual and NOAHH, Lakuachel Price raised the walls on her home in the Westbank. Raised in the Central City and New Orleans East areas of the city, Lakuachel is now a pharmaceutical technician, and is raising two children, Laurel, 18, and Jimmie, 6. At the ceremony, Lakuachel told the crowd that her Habitat home meant the end of her worries about landlords and making her rising rent payments – and having no worries was something new for her.
Northwestern Mutual raised over $95,000 for New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity in just three days in March of this year. During Northwestern Mutual’s Southern Regional Meeting in New Orleans, the company’s financial representatives raised $47,570, and then the Northwestern Mutual Foundation matched every dollar raised. Though the group met its fundraising goal of $25,000 by the first afternoon of the Regional Meeting, it continued giving throughout the conference nonetheless.
Jim Pate, Executive Director of New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, said of the donation which brought about Lakuachel’s new home, “We greatly appreciate the incredible giving demonstrated by our partners at Northwestern Mutual. This group of sales associates has set a new benchmark for corporate convention and meeting fundraising.”
