Following a live broadcast from Musicians' Village on Thursday night, CNN's Anderson Cooper came to the 5th Anniversary Build-a-Thon site Friday night to do another live
show! In anticipation of the broadcast, NOAHH invited out volunteers from Build-a-Thon sponsor Marriott to participate in a special night build.
Also there was Kermit Ruffins featuring musicians from Musicians' Village.
The homes are well on their way to being dried in, and with the help of some well placed lights, staff and volunteers worked hard to make some added progress Friday night. The day saw a little rain and a lot of hard work, and the night build brought (along with a slight drop in temperature) a little spectacle to the event.
Also on site this week are partner families Ashley Muse and Shirley Hayes, who have been helping build their own homes (and getting to know their neighbors) as part of their "sweat equity," the 350 hours of work they put in in lieu of a down payment as part of the program.
Ashley works for Walmart and has two children. She will (soon!) be living in the home at 1734 Frenchmen, the home sponsored by the Karen B. Yoh Foudnation. Shirley is a disable veteran working for Community Living Alternatives. She also has two children, and she will be living at the home at 1742 Frenchmen (right next door to Ashley), which is sponsored by the National Association of Realtors.
