Neither the heat of August nor the New Orleans rain could stop the 5th Anniversary Build-a-Thon!
Saturday saw over 200 volunteers working on the homes in the 7th Ward and helping in neighborhood clean up. To cap off a successful week of accelerated building and in celebration of our accomplishments, the day ended with a second line featuring the Three Stooges Brass Band and Branford Marsalis and a barbecue featuring jambalaya. Volunteers paraded down the block and danced in the street with staff, partner families, and neighbors at the end of a long, wet day, and five homes on Frenchmen and Touro were dried in by the end of it all.
NOAHH thanks all of our volunteers--over 800 throughout the week--for their help in making this possible. NOAHH also thanks our sponsors (Marriott, National Association of Realtors, and the Karen B. Yoh Foundation) for their support, as well as all the staff and partner families who came out.
With the help of volunteers and sponsors, NOAHH dried in the five homes in five days, cleaned lots throughout the neighborhood as part of our commitment to the community, and brought five families much closer to homeownership. With the help of volunteers and sponsors, NOAHH celebrated five years of progress in the New Orleans area, helped shine a light on the continued need for support not just for the hurricane and flood-affected areas but also on the need to fight poverty housing everywhere, and kickstarted the next five years (and more!) of NOAHH's mission.
